The Giving Garden Story

The Giving Garden was established in March of 2017 by its founder, Dawna, as a personal experiment in gardening. A 60×20′ plot was gifted to her to use by her father in law, in the beautiful foothills of Dewinton. After producing more than she could use, Dawna started giving away the extra produce, and the garden quickly turned into something that was helping others, and The Giving Garden was born.

Through the efforts of hardworking volunteers, the garden has grown and expanded into an organization with plans to register as a non profit. The garden is now 160 x 22′ and The Giving Garden has been able to provide over 3000 lbs (and counting!) of locally grown, chemical free, heirloom produce to individuals, families, and charitable organizations throughout Calgary and area.

Need Food?

We can help you find a variety of different food resources, regardless of income, location or situation.

If you are experiencing food insecurity, homelessness, domestic abuse or other forms of financial issues, we can help find the resources that you need. At The Giving Garden, we are here to help our community in whatever way we can. We work closely with a variety of businesses and organizations and are often able to provide referrals for services that we do not directly provide. Fill out our intake form so that we can connect you with the resources that most suit your needs. You can also find links and information on some local support agencies on our resources page.

Want To Get Involved?

Our volunteers are what allow us to keep giving. We are always looking for more hands to help us!

The Garden requires over 5000 man hours to plant, maintain, harvest and distribute the produce; although we love the work that we do, we would like to make it a bit easier. If you would like to get involved with the Giving Garden, contact us today!
